(2) This is a remotely-located controller which functions together with a butterfly valve (not shown) to provide for regulation and shutoff of a high stage bleed air source.

(3) The high stage regulator includes a reference pressure regulator, a reverse flow check mechanism, a pneumatic shutoff and a relief valve assembly.

(4) The reference pressure regulator contains a diaphragm assembly and a poppet valve assembly. The poppet valve assembly is made up of a poppet valve, guide, spring and retainer. The reverse flow check mechanism is made up of a diaphragm section and poppet valve section, which are connected by an L shaped actuating lever. A seal on the lever isolates the two sections. The poppet valve section is vented to ambient and the poppet is normally spring-loaded to the closed position.

(5) The rod arm of the poppet contacts one arm of the L shaped lever and the other arm of the lever is held in contact with the diaphragm by a spring. The diaphragm section of the reverse flow check mechanism consists of two chambers. One chamber contains a spring, which forces the diaphragm into contact with the L shaped lever. The other chamber is connected to the downstream pressure connection and downstream test port.

(6) The pneumatic shutoff is made up of a diaphragm, spring and ball valve with two seats. One seat is vented to ambient pressure and the other seat is open to operating pressure. Chamber B of the diaphragm is connected to the supply pressure connection and supply test port.

(7) The relief valve assembly is a spring-loaded poppet valve installed in a housing. Identification information is mounted on the valve body assembly.

(8) Test ports are provided on the supply, control and downstream pressure connections to allow testing of the valve without disconnecting any lines.

2. Operation

操作

(1) Inlet air from an external source enters the supply port and is ported to a reference pressure regulator, a reverse flow check mechanism and a pneumatic shut off. The air ported to the reference pressure regulator passes the metering poppet and is ported to Chamber A where it exerts a pressure force against the reference pressure regulator diaphragm. The diaphragm force balances the force of the regulator spring and moves the metering poppet toward the (closed) position. When the pressure and spring forces are balanced, the pressure downstream of the reference regulator is held at a constant value independent of the inlet pressure. This constant reference pressure is then ported out the control port. When the control port is connected to the remote valve actuator and supplied regulated air from the reference pressure regulator, the remote valve will regulate its downstream air to a constant gauge pressure level.

(2) The supply air source is ported to Chamber B of the pneumatic shut off. When the Chamber B pressure forces exceed a prescribed limit, they overcome the spring force acting on the diaphragm. This causes the poppet to stroke to the opposite seat from that shown, preventing inlet air from reaching the control port. The air pressure trapped in the remote valve actuator passes out through the vent port of the pneumatic shutoff, causing the remote valve to close.

(3) Downstream pressure from the remote valve is ported to the reverse flow check mechanism where it is compared to the remote valves upstream pressure acting on the opposite side of the diaphragm. If the downstream pressure rises to a predetermined level below the upstream pressure, the poppet is actuated open as shown. This causes the pressure downstream of the control orifice to drop to a low level. The resulting level supplied through the control port is then sufficiently low that the remote valve will close.

(4) A relief valve provides pressure regulation in the event of a reference pressure regulator failure. This regulation pressure is higher than the reference regulation pressure. Also the relief valve allows for rapid “dumping” of air pressure in the remove valve actuator to minimize remote valve pressure regulation “Overshoots” during transient operation.

(5) Test ports are provided on the supply, control and downstream ports to allow testing of the valve without disconnecting any lines.

The high stage valve is a pneumatically actuated, spring-loaded closed,butterfly type valve used with the high stage regulator.

High Stage Regulator (Fig. 5)

A. The high stage regulator is a device that functions to provide for regulation and shutoff of the high stage valve.

B. The high stage regulator includes a reference pressure regulator, reverse flow check mechanism, pneumatic shutoff, and a relief valve assembly.

C. The reference pressure regulator contains a diaphragm assembly and a poppet valve assembly consisting of a poppet valve, guide, spring and retainer. The reverse flow check mechanism is made up of two sections. A diaphragm section and poppet valve section are connected by an L shaped actuating lever. A seal on the lever isolates the two sections. The poppet valve section is vented to ambient and the poppet is normally spring loaded to the closed position. The rod arm of the poppet contacts one arm of the L shaped lever and the other arm of the lever is held in contact with the diaphragm by a spring. The diaphragm section of the reverse flow check mechanism consists of two chambers. One chamber contains a spring which forces the diaphragm into contact with the L shaped lever. The other chamber is connected to the downstream pressure connection and downstream test port.

D. The pneumatic shutoff is made up of a diaphragm, spring and ball valve with two seats. One seat is vented to ambient pressure. The opposite seat is open to upstream pressure. Chamber B side of the diaphragm is connected to the supply pressure connection and supply test port.

E. The relief valve assembly is a spring loaded poppet valve installed in a housing. Test ports are provided on the supply, control and downstream pressure connections to allow testing of the valve without disconnecting any lines.

F. Inlet air from the upstream source enters the supply pressure connection and is ported to the reference pressure regulator, reverse flow check mechanism and pneumatic shutoff. The air, ported to the reference pressure regulator, passes the metering poppet and is ported to Chamber A where it exerts pressure against the reference pressure regulator diaphragm. The diaphragm force overcomes the force of the reference pressure regulator spring and moves the metering poppet toward the closed position. When the forces are balanced, the pressure downstream of the reference pressure regulator is held at a constant value independent of the inlet pressure.

G. This constant reference pressure is then ported out the control pressure connection to the high stage valve.

H. The supply air source is ported to Chamber B of the pneumatic shutoff.When Chamber B pressure exceeds a prescribed limit, it overcomes the spring force acting on the diaphragm. This causes the poppet to stroke to the opposite seat from that shown, preventing inlet air from reaching the reference pressure regulator.

I. Downstream pressure from an external source is ported to the reverse flow check mechanism where it is compared to control pressure acting on the opposite side of the diaphragm. If downstream pressure rises to a predetermined level above the upstream pressure, the poppet is actuated open. This causes the reference pressure downstream of the control orifice to drop to a low level which closes the high stage valve.

J. A relief valve assembly provides pressure regulation in the event of a reference pressure regulator failure.

Engine Bleed Air Stage Selection

1) Each BACS receives air from either the engine low-stage bleed port or the high-stage bleed port. This selection of the bleed supply is controlled by the high-stage valve and the high-stage regulator setting.

2) During takeoff, climb, and most cruise and hold conditions,the pressure available from the low stage is above the switchover pressure. Air is extracted from the low-stage engine port and is ducted through the bleed air check valve to the pressure regulator and shutoff valve and precooler.

The high-stage valve remains closed during these operating modes.

3) The high stage valve and regulator use a simple bleed pressure sensing control that will use high stage bleed air when 5th stage pressure is below a range of 25-33 psig .As 5th stage pressure increases toward this range, the high stage valve will modulate toward close. When 5th stage pressure reaches this range, the high stage valve will be closed. The reverse of this is true on decreasing pressure. To prevent high temperature and pressure air entering the high stage regulator when 9th stage bleed is not required, the high stage pneumatic shutoff will be in the closed position. The shutoff is actuated when 9th stage pressure is 105-115 psig.

发动机引气级选择

Reverse Flow Check Operation

1) The reverse flow check mechanism provided in the high-stage regulator is designed to shut off the high-stage valve prior to a flow reversal. This is accomplished by sensing high stage port pressure upstream of the high-stage valve and comparing it to the pressure downstream of the precooler. As long as there is flow in the forward direction, the high stage port pressure upstream of the high-stage valve will be higher than the pressure downstream of the precooler because of the pressure drop between the high stage sense port and precooler outlet.

The reverse-flow check mechanism is designed to vent the opening chamber of the high-stage valve, causing it to close when the pressure drop between the two sense taps is less than 1.0 psi.

2) Additional protection against flow reversal is provided by the reverse flow check device in the bleed air regulator. This device senses pressure upstream of the pressure regulator and shutoff valve and downstream of the precooler. Upon a flow reversal, a switch is actuated which sends a signal to the valve’s shutoff solenoid. Switch actuation occurs at a maximum differential pressure of 0.3 psi in the reverse airflow condition.

反流止回操作
